Game of a Lifetime.
This happened.
Pretty sure we don't have a decent picture that proves we were at the actual game WHILE it was going on, but these will have to do you.
Because we really were there. Early.
And when you spend that much money to bet here, you gotta stretch it out. Like make it 29 innings worth of time.
Also we needed to make sure we could find parking that we could afford with the measly funds we had left in our bank account.
kidding!
Not kidding about the fact that we spent $20 on parking and were thrilled about it.
We were there to soak in everything the city of Cincinnati had to offer for this big event. It was so worth it.
It was actually pouring rain when we got out of the parking garage. Like buckets. But God had big plans to make this a fun experience for us (I'm not above praying for the weather for a ball game).
This was the view when we first walked into the stadium.
It took me 15 minutes to get over commenting on how beautiful it was.
Then we explored a little and enjoyed the pre-game action.
I can't even put into words what went on before the game started. The ceremony and activities were fun and meaningful and spectacular and sweet and thrilling all in one.
Each baseball team had voted on a "Franchise Four" - basically their team's best ever players. So we were excited to see Cincy's of course; including:
And then the big Cincinnati thrill:
One and only #14.
It was a huge deal that he was allowed to participate in the ceremony and step foot on the grass, and you could tell. The roar when they first flashed his picture on the screen was deafening.
And Cincinnati's Franchise Four are all still kickin' so they brought them out.
Then they spent another few minutes announcing the "Living Legends" - Baseball's best players that are still living.
Johnny Bench ran off the field, made a quick change into a blue sport coat to match THOSE legends, then ran right back out. Good for Cincinnati.
I think my favorite part of the whole night was for real the National Anthem.
Yeah, I cried.
If that sky isn't God smiling down and saying "Play ball, America!" I don't know what is.
Eventually we started paying a little more attention to the people actually playing in today's game.
Pretty sure Todd Frazier's humble head tilt embodies exactly what it is that makes Cincy love him. Glad he was the Reds' representation.
So then there was a baseball game.
I didn't take a lot of pictures of that.
But I did get this awesome "Where's Waldo" shot of Don and Pat.
Golly, it really was a perfect night for baseball.
Also, Frosty Malts.
The UDF men are few and far between at the ballpark these days, so we had to have a decent portion of our section looking out for him. Luckily someone (maybe with a few too many in them?) flagged him down from 3 sections over.
And with that, our All Star Game experience was complete.
Oh yeah, and we lost the game.
